AN email is on its way to the GAA county board inviting Mayo’s All-Ireland heroes to a civic reception in Westport.<\/p>\n

District cathaoirleach Councillor Brendan Mulroy today proposed that a formal reception take place in Westport Town Hall to honour their achievements.<\/p>\n

His Westport-Belmullet Municipal District colleagues supported his proposal at their monthly meeting this morning where councillors extended their congratulations to the team and management on what has been a fantastic week for the county.<\/p>\n

It has been indicated that Mayo County Council will hold a civic reception, but that won’t come before the council until its next monthly meeting in September.<\/p>\n

Regardless of what they were doing, Councillor Mulroy said he wanted a reception in Westport. And he asked that the invitation be sent to the Mayo County GAA Board today.<\/p>\n

The point was made by Councillor Peter Flynn that Kobe McDonald is due to leave for Australia in the next few weeks so it’s important to hold a reception as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

It would be the second high-profile reception hosted in the town hall this summer, following the celebrations to mark the visit of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, councillors were looking forward to the team’s visit to Kilmeena GAA Club later in the day as part of their open top bus tour today.<\/p>\n
