She drops the bite-sized bombshell towards the end of the London post-punk band\u2019s treat of an early afternoon set at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/all-together-now-festival\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/all-together-now-festival\/\">All Together Now<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThe chicken and stuffing from Circle K,\u201d the former arts lecturer explains as the group wend their way through 60 minutes of agreeably digressive meditations on the pain of being a thoughtful person in the dog days of late-stage capitalism. \u201cVery nice,\u201d she adds, going all in on the lunch-themed anecdote as it is clear nobody is going to stop her. \u201cThe one from the fridge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Open related story\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/culture\/music\/2026\/07\/27\/all-together-now-festival-2026-stage-times-ticket-information-how-to-get-there-and-more\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">All Together Now festival 2026: Stage times, ticket information, how to get there and moreOpens in new window<\/a>\u00a0]<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Dry Cleaning have a formula, but it\u2019s a good one. Singing from beneath her fringe, Shaw delivers droll spoken word ruminations \u2013 her lyrics often surreal (Cruise Ship Designer), sometimes devastatingly heartfelt (My Soul\/Half Pint) \u2013 while her blokey bandmates conjure the uneasy spirits of early 1980s new-wave rock. It isn\u2019t quite like attending a poetry circle while someone next door blasts Joy Division \u2013 but it\u2019s not entirely unlike it either.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Still, when they want to be they can be very funny, as Shaw demonstrates at All Together Now as she plunges into the wry Meghan Markle homage, Magic of Meghan. Are lyrics such as \u201cI fell in love with Meghan so incredibly quickly\u201d to be taken ironically? Possibly: Shaw\u2019s delivery is so deadpan it\u2019s hard to say either way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">They also do a solid line in straightforward shin-kicking rock, as proved by closer Hit My Head All Day, which bounces along on a hypnotic chorus and rambunctious guitars from Tom Dowse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It\u2019s just the sort of cathartic singalong you want at the end of an intense set of spoken word punk rock.
