Whitehead\u2019s footage of Led Zeppelin performing at Bath Festival 1970 was thought for decades to be unusable because of low light levels during the band\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n
It was only on May 27, 2017\u00a0when it was revealed that between 20 and 30 minutes of the Bath Festival film survives<\/a>. Then on September 29, 2022, British film licensing company Kinolibrary\u00a0published parts of the film on YouTube without fanfare<\/a>. At the time, the film was silent without any audio.<\/p>\n The emergence of the film, which comprises colour and close-up footage of Led Zeppelin,\u00a0shocked fans<\/a>. \u201cThis footage is mind blowing! I\u2019m speechless,\u201d\u00a0wrote one user on Led Zeppelin\u2019s official forum<\/a>. \u201cHoly fucking fuck,\u201d\u00a0wrote another person on the Royal Orleans forum<\/a>.<\/p>\n In 2023, LedZepNews wrote this detailed account of Whitehead\u2019s filming of Led Zeppelin in 1970 using papers from his archives<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Bath Festival 1970 footage was removed from YouTube in 2024. Last year, however, Hathor Publishing released a trailer for the film which included some of the audio recorded by the film crew.<\/p>\n In January, LedZepNews published an interview with Robert Chilcott<\/a>, an archivist at the business who also edited the trailer.<\/p>\n The rediscovery of Whitehead\u2019s film was an \u201caccident\u201d, Chilcott said. \u201cA number of cans were not clearly labelled.
