A man has died after he got into difficulty in the water at the pier in Castletownbere.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred at about 4:30 pm on Saturday. The emergency services were contacted.<\/p>\n
The National Ambulance Service issued an alert to Valentia Coastguard.<\/p>\n
Castletownbere Coastguard and the local RNLI lifeboat attended at the scene. The man was taken from the water.<\/p>\n
He was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n
The body of the man has been taken to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital. The Coroner has been contacted.<\/p>\n
A postmortem examination will be carried out. An inquest will be held at a later date.<\/p>\n
It is understood that the dead man worked as a crew member on a tug boat.<\/p>\n
Castletownbere is currently hosting its popular nine-day Festival of the Seas, which attracts crowds to the area<\/p>\n
Deputy Mayor of the County, Cllr Finbarr Harrington, said that his thoughts and prayers were with the families of the deceased man.<\/p>\n
