His first season of 20 goals in 47 games for AZ was impressive enough, but Parrott outdid himself last season with 31 in 48 games as the Dutch side won the Dutch Cup and reached the quarter-finals of the Conference League. Add in his six goals for Ireland, and you reach a total of 37 goals which was only beaten by four strikers across Europe’s top 10 leagues.<\/p>\n
All of which is to say that Parrott was expected to be hot property this summer, with Parrott himself admitting his time in Alkmaar was likely coming to an end at the tail end of last season. However, whispers of any move have been slow to develop.<\/p>\n

Football Insider\u00a0transfer expert Pete O’Rourke reported on Saturday morning that Ajax and Real Betis have approached AZ Alkmaar with a view to sign Ireland striker Troy Parrott.<\/p>\n

With Parrott’s asking price rumoured to be in that vicinity, it seems doubtful the cash-strapped Dutch side will be able to splash out \u20ac40,000,000 for two strikers.<\/p>\n It also remains to be seen whether AZ Alkmaar would be willing to entertain a bid from their Eredivisie rivals.<\/p>\n Real Betis can offer one thing this season which Ajax cannot – Champions League football.<\/p>\n An excellent 2025-26 campaign saw the Spanish side finish 5th in La Liga and secure their place at Europe’s top table.<\/p>\n Intriguingly, both sides are playing in Dublin in the next fortnight, presenting the possibility that Parrott could make his debut on home soil.<\/p>\n Real Betis travel to the Aviva Stadium this Wednesday to face Premier League champions Arsenal in a sold-out pre-season friendly.<\/p>\n Ajax, on the other hand, have their European hopes on the line when they face Shelbourne in the third round of UEFA Conference League qualifiers. The Dutch giants will play Shels in Tolka Park on Thursday, August 13th, with the Amsterdam leg scheduled for this Thursday, August 6th.<\/p>\n Later on Saturday, talkSPORT’s Ben Jacobs added three names to the list of clubs pursuing Troy Parrott.<\/p>\n Jacobs corroborated the reported interest from Ajax and Betis, and stated that Ajax’s domestic rivals PSV and Serie A side Como are also in the mix. Both clubs will play in this season’s Champions League.<\/p>\n Troy Parrott is drawing interest from at least five clubs. As previously reported on @talkSPORT<\/a>, Fulham have shown an interest pre-dating the summer. Como, PSV, Real Betis and Ajax have also made recent enquiries.
