Illegal parking has again blocked a life-saving slipway in Downings, despite repeated warnings in recent months.<\/p>\n

The silver car in question (pictured above) was found parked in a yellow box, which is meant to be kept clear in case the local Coast Guard lifeboat needs to be launched.<\/p>\n

It was posted anonymously to the the Downings, Donegal Facebook page which a caption which simply said: “Move your car. You are endangering lives.”<\/p>\n

The very same slipway was blocked<\/a> just two weeks ago, when a similar appeal was put out urging members of the public to park responsibly.<\/p>\n

A similar incident in 2021 saw the launching of a lifeboat at Bunbeg Pier delayed by 10 minutes, with a motorist’s illegally-parked car blocking the slipway.<\/p>\n

This latest incident also comes as access to the Downings Beach has been restricted for motorists this weekend.<\/p>\n

An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na implemented the ban<\/a> on parking on the beach itself for the Bank Holiday Weekend in the interests of safety, due to the large volumes of traffic expected in the area.<\/p>\n

A similar parking restriction was also put in place for the 12th of July weekend, following a chaotic start to Summer in the seaside town due to an influx of tourists and other visitors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Illegal parking has again blocked a life-saving slipway in Downings, despite repeated warnings in recent months.
