The Dingles will say goodbye to their beloved pet Monty on next week’s Emmerdale, following his tragic cancer diagnosis. But while Cain ultimately agrees to put the dog to sleep<\/a>, the decision isn’t an easy one. <\/p>\n

When the family learnt about Monty’s incurable illness this summer, they were left completely devastated. Having been diagnosed with cancer himself<\/a>, Cain took the news the hardest and has been fighting to extend Monty’s life. <\/p>\n

His determination – and denial – has caused friction with his loved ones, who have urged him to listen to the vets’ advice, and in upcoming scenes, Belle Dingle tries to give him a gentle reality check – to no avail.<\/p>\n

In a newly released spoiler clip for Tuesday’s episode, a hopeful Cain points out that Monty is “looking better”, following another worrying development. With Moira away at Nana Barton’s, Belle takes over as the voice of reason, saying she isn’t going to tell him what he wants to hear. <\/p>\n

“All I’m saying is, he’s looking more like himself; moving about, going to his bowl,” Cain clarifies. <\/p>\n

“You know what Rhona said, though. There’s a tumour, it’s spreading. There’s nothing we can do to stop it,” says Belle, with Cain insisting “they don’t always get it right”.<\/p>\n

Cain likens Monty’s illness to his own, pointing out that the family shouldn’t give up on either of them. But when Belle reminds him it isn’t the same, he storms away from the conversation in frustration. <\/p>\n

Later in the week, Cain has a sudden change of heart when he sees the dog lying on Zak’s grave. He realises it’s time for the pair to be reunited<\/a> and agrees to put him to sleep peacefully. <\/p>\n

The Dingles all gather to give Monty a proper send-off, with Cain delivering an emotional eulogy. Will Monty’s death change his outlook on his own illness? <\/p>\n
