New BBC thriller The Rapture has jumped to number two on iPlayer’s most popular list after hitting the streaming service last week. All five episodes of the series, which stars Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story’s<\/a> India Amarteifio, are available to watch now.<\/p>\n

The thriller<\/a> has been keeping viewers hooked thanks to the dark mystery at the centre of the series. <\/p>\n

Years and Years<\/a>‘ Ruth Madeley stars as Dr Gabrielle ‘Gabs’ Fox, a child psychologist recovering from the trauma of a car accident that killed her husband Alex and left her paralysed.<\/p>\n

Gabs moves to a coastal town in South Wales in the hope of starting a new life after accepting a position at a psychiatric hospital. There she is assigned Bethany Krall (Amarteifio), a 17-year-old who was sectioned two years ago for the brutal murder of her mother.<\/p>\n

Bethany’s case is far from straightforward as she not only professes her innocence, but also claims to be able to see the future. To add a further twist, Bethany’s estranged father Leonard leads influential religious movement Faith Way, which boasts millions of followers.<\/p>\n

Alongside Amarteifio and Madeley, the series also stars<\/a> Gavin & Stacey<\/a>‘s Ruth Jones as Gabs’ therapist Mel and Poldark’s Jack Farthing. <\/p>\n

The BBC’s director of drama Lindsay Salt previously said about the show<\/a>: “This thriller brings Liz Jensen\u2019s compelling novel to life with a truly talented cast led by the brilliant Ruth Madeley and India Amarteifio.<\/p>\n

“The Rapture features two complicated and captivating characters, blended with a story of climate change, to create a gripping narrative and I can\u2019t wait for BBC viewers to see it.”<\/p>\n

Speaking to Digital Spy about the series<\/a> Amarteifio said it was “for people who truly love a thriller”.<\/p>\n

The actress added: “There are so many twists and turns. I don’t think there is a clear protagonist or antagonist. Everyone is slightly unhinged all the time. You really actually don’t trust anyone.”<\/p>\n

The Rapture<\/a> is available to watch now on BBC One.
