\u201cIT: Welcome to Derry\u201d co-creator Andy Muschietti says \u201cwe\u2019re in the writer\u2019s room\u201d now on that show\u2019s second season.<\/p>\n

The new season will take place in 1935, centering around the Bradley Gang Massacre which is mentioned in King\u2019s original \u201cIT\u201d novel.<\/p>\n

The incident sees a group of outlaws hides out in the town of Derry while fleeing the FBI, robbing and murdering store owners and causing all-around chaos. Events take place 27 years before the first season<\/p>\n

Talking about the show\u2019s tone, Muschietti says they won\u2019t hold back from the Depression-era social and cultural elements:<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s gonna be a lot of that depression-era hustling in the air in our characters. Everybody\u2019s trying to get by and survive the circumstances. They are gonna do crazy things. And of course, the social, cultural, horrible things that were happening in the era, too. We\u2019re not going to skip those. [They are the] very center and the heart of our story.\u201d<\/p>\n

The overall aesthetic will be different \u2013 the kids here aren\u2019t living happy suburban lives by any means:<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this case, on the surface, Derry is a graveyard almost. It\u2019s a carcass of something because people are depleted, poor, tired, jobless, homeless. The kids don\u2019t have a suburban, comforting life. They\u2019re in a very different situation. Some of them are orphans or runaways, and so the environment is pretty bleak. But there\u2019s always the aspect of hope that is always there, burning, and it\u2019s what keeps our new group going.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Muschietti has previously explained, the hope with the series is for three seasons, the third and final one tackling the Ironworks explosion in 1908.<\/p>\n

Muschietti also has his eyes set on adapting King\u2019s short story \u201cThe Jaunt\u201d in his \u201cSkeleton Crew\u201d collection. That short involves a teleportation technology allowing instantaneous travel \u2013 but people have to be unconscious to do so. Anyone who goes through conscious goes completely insane.<\/p>\n
