The Donegal Mountain Rescue Team (DMRT) came to the assistance of an experienced walker who became stranded in heavy fog on Muckish Mountain last week.<\/p>\n
At 8.22am last Wednesday, the volunteer team was tasked by Garda\u00ed to assist a hillwalker who had become stuck near the trig point in very heavy fog.<\/p>\n
A full team callout was activated and a hasty party pushed ahead to the summit while the rest of the team followed up behind. The first party reached the walker at 10.17am. The person was uninjured and in good spirits, so after a brief medical check and some extra warm layers we began the descent. The two groups met on the way down and everyone continued together, reaching the car park at 11.07am, where a final check was carried out before the team stood down.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a good example of someone doing the right thing,\u201d a DMRT spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe person was experienced, warm, carrying food and water, and had plenty of battery left in their phone. Rather than guessing their way off the mountain in near zero visibility, the person stopped and called for help. If the cloud comes in on you, stop, put on your warm gear and think before you move. If you are not confident in your navigation, dial 112 or 999 and ask for Mountain Rescue.\u201d<\/p>\n
