<\/p>\nFormer Coronation Street star Chris Gascoyne has shared an exciting first look at his new TV role. The actor, who played Peter Barlow for over 20 years, left the soap back in 2023 to pursue other projects. <\/p>\n
Since then, Gascoyne has appeared on the Channel 5 dramas The Feud and All Creatures Great and Small. Now, he’s back on our screens for a new role in the BBC crime drama The Northumbria Mysteries. <\/p>\n
Set in Northumberland, the series follows Joe Ruby, an ex-convict and gambler who attempts to solve various local crimes using his links to the criminal world. <\/p>\n

Related: Best streaming services<\/a><\/p>\n The jack-of-all-trades teams up with Oxford-educated DI Rose O’Connell, forming an unlikely duo who are strangely drawn to each other as the story progresses.<\/p>\n Robson Green stars as Joe, opposite Liz White’s Detective O’Connell, with Simon Callow, Craig Pearson, Gurjeet Singh and Alex Croft rounding out the cast. Though Gascoyne’s character remains under wraps, he is also an executive producer on the show<\/a> for production company Lonesome Pines. <\/p>\n Taking to Instagram<\/a> on Saturday, the actor shared an update on production for the series – marking his first post since 2020.<\/p>\n “I’m back – lots to catch up on\u2026” he wrote in the caption, alongside some behind-the-scenes filming snaps. <\/p>\n Related: Coronation Street reveals chilling final Cassie twist in shock exit scenes<\/a><\/p>\n One photo saw Gascoyne and Green in character, shown through the camera monitor on set.
