Tusk is a Mac app for video creators and photographers that backs up project files across drives and the cloud, and it shows where every file lives, even when drives aren’t plugged in.

Tusk has now been released after a two-month-long beta trial. Tusk doesn’t just handle file cataloging but also the backup and offload process. It backs up project files across drives and the cloud with checksum verification, as well as supporting SD card fan-out offload without requiring a local Mac copy, and blocks unsafe local deletes.

Unless you are super organized and very thorough when it comes to storing and cataloging your footage and photos, you can easily end up with material that spreads across media cards, a Mac, external SSDs, archive drives, and cloud storage. Trying to find where you backed up that footage you need to access months or years later can be a time-consuming exercise. Tusk was designed to help with that.

Even if your backup drive is sitting in a drawer, Tusk still knows exactly what is on it. It was built for photographers and video creators with footage spread across drives and cloud. Tusk automatically copies and verifies new project files, and it can offload an SD card to several destinations at once without first filling the Mac. It also blocks unsafe local deletes, and restores from the best available copy in one click.

Tusk copies project files to multiple drives and cloud destinations, verifies every transfer with a BLAKE3 checksum, and remembers every location even while a drive is unplugged. On a shoot day, it can offload a media card to several destinations at once without first filling the Mac. When local space runs low, Tusk checks the backup copies before allowing a local delete, then restores from the best available source when the files are needed again.
