{"id":582651,"date":"2026-08-04T06:28:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-04T06:28:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/582651\/"},"modified":"2026-08-04T06:28:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T06:28:08","slug":"donegal-gardai-seize-e-scooters-from-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/582651\/","title":{"rendered":"Donegal Gardai seize e-scooters from children"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Donegal Gardai have seized two e-scooters from children.<\/p>\n<p>The scooters were taken from two children in the Killea area yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The scooters were seized as part of the August Bank Holiday Weekend Roads Policing Operation.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson warned parent in Donegal that they need to know the law when it comes ot their children and e-scooters.<\/p>\n<p>The spokesperson said &#8220;Do not allow your children to use e-scooters under any circumstances. It is against the law and it is also highly dangerous. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are specific laws in place regarding the use of electric scooters and e-bikes. Make sure that you are aware of these laws and that you abide by them.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Under new legislation coming into effect in late August 2026, the minimum legal age to ride an e-scooter in public increases from 16 to 18 years old. <\/p>\n<p>Anyone under 18 is legally prohibited from using them, and selling e-scooters to minors will also become illegal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Donegal Gardai have seized two e-scooters from children.
