Billie Eilish has long been known for her laid-back, tomboyish style<\/a>, with the pop star citing Tyler, the Creator and Missy Elliott<\/a> as fashion inspirations. But these days, as she takes on the role of Esther Greenwood in Sarah Polley\u2019s upcoming adaptation of The Bell Jar, Eilish is cutting a very different figure.<\/p>\n

In photos from the Toronto set of the film, based on Sylvia Plath\u2019s 1963 novel, Eilish can be seen wearing a short-sleeved knit top in scarlet red; a full, A-line skirt in a jaunty check print; and, on the beauty front, a tidy side part and bold red lip. Though the look could not feel further away from her boxy Polo shirts and fetching Celine suits<\/a> of yore, Eilish\u2019s wardrobe for The Bell Jar does somewhat call to mind the Old Hollywood-inspired Oscar de la Renta gown<\/a> that she wore to the 2021 Met Gala.<\/p>\n

Set in the early 1950s, The Bell Jar centers on a young woman, Esther, who does a summer internship at a women\u2019s magazine in New York City, before returning home to the suburbs of Boston and suffering a mental health crisis. (Carey Mulligan is set to play Esther\u2019s mother in the new film.)
