Scott Eastwood<\/a> has recalled the legendary way his father, Clint Eastwood, calmly put Kevin Costner\u2019s \u201cbig ego\u201d in check on the set of 1993\u2019s A Perfect World. <\/p>\n

Directed by and also starring Clint<\/a>, 96, the crime thriller followed an escaped prisoner (Costner) who kidnaps a young, impressionable boy and takes him on a journey across the American Southwest.<\/p>\n

Costner\u2019s lead role in the crime thriller came during a time when he was \u201csort of going through maybe … a rise to fame\u201d and \u201cmaybe [had] a big ego,\u201d Scott, 40<\/a>, said on a recent episode of Dax Shepard\u2019s Armchair Expert podcast. <\/p>\n

\u201cApparently, Kevin wouldn\u2019t come out of his trailer for some reason,\u201d the Fury actor remembered, explaining that his father <\/a>\u201cdoesn\u2019t do trailers and things\u201d and prefers to \u201cjust be on set.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe always told me [that] as a kid. \u2018You want to learn how to make movies<\/a>? You want to learn how to do this? You stay here with everybody else and you make the damn movie,\u2019\u201d Scott noted. <\/p>\n

Instead of yelling for Costner to come out of his trailer, Clint told his crew to \u201csend him home.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo he sent him home and I guess they just went to Kevin and said, \u2018Hey, you\u2019re going to go home for the day,\u2019\u201d Scott recounted. \u201cHe said, \u2018What do you mean, I\u2019m in the scene?\u2019 [And they said], \u2018Well, I guess you\u2019re not anymore.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cThe next day, [Costner] was on set ready to go,\u201d the Gran Torino star said. <\/p>\n

The Independent has contacted Costner\u2019s representative for comment. <\/p>\n

Scott is one of Clint\u2019s eight children from various relationships and marriages. He is the oldest of the famed actor-director\u2019s two children with Jacelyn Reeves.<\/p>\n

The four-time Oscar winner rose to fame with the TV series Rawhide in the sixties before starring in Sergio Leone\u2019s spaghetti western Dollars trilogy,<\/a> which included The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. His directorial debut, Play Misty For Me, came out in 1971, and in the years after he released hit films like Million Dollar Baby, Unforgiven, American Sniper and The Mule.<\/p>\n

Clint hasn\u2019t acted since 2021\u2019s Cry Macho, with his son, 58-year-old musician and composer Kyle, claiming to France Info in November 2025 that he has officially retired.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI have many fond memories of working with him. Now he\u2019s retired, he\u2019s 95 years old,\u201d Kyle said. \u201cBut I was very lucky to be able to work with him on quite a few films. It was a great experience for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last month, however, Scott cast doubt on his father\u2019s supposed retirement<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll see. I have not heard that from his mouth at all,\u201d the Longest Ride actor said in an interview with ScreenRant. \u201cHis career in general has been something to admire, something to be inspired by, and continues to inspire me. The work, the artistry that he’s done on and off screen. Producing, writing, composing, directing, acting.
