Apple TV<\/a>‘s Trying season 5<\/a> is in full swing as its fifth episode, ‘Ick’, treats fans to a guest appearance from The Thursday Murder Club and The Traitors star Celia Imrie. The actor, whose other credits include Calendar Girls and FX series Better Things, joins Esther Smith and Rafe Spall on the wholesome dramedy centred on a couple’s parenthood journey.<\/p>\n

In season 5, Smith’s Nikki and Spall’s Jason are settling in their life as the adoptive parents of Princess (Scarlett Rayner) and Tyler (Cooper Turner) as the two kids’ biological mother Kat (Charlotte Riley) comes back into the picture. The protagonists navigate what it means to be a family as they embrace Kat but can’t help but feeling left out seeing her bond with their kids.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Nikki has a crush on a new co-worker and Jason studies to become a social worker, shadowing no-nonsense Chrissy, played by Black Ops star and co-creator, Gbemisola Ikumelo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Imrie’s character Harriet James is involved in Jason’s social worker storyline as he and Chrissy pay the character a house visit. Described as an eccentric, upper-class compulsive hoarder, Harriet isn’t too keen on Jason accompanying Chrissy.<\/p>\n

“I’ve got a man with me today,” Chrissy says apologetically after greeting Harriet, who immediately hits back: “What man? I don’t want a man.”<\/p>\n

“None of us do, but we make the best of it,” Chrissy replies without missing a beat as Jason stands awkwardly a couple of steps back.<\/p>\n

Despite Jason’s best efforts, Harriet hilariously shuts the door in his face after Chrissy gets in. The newbie social worker managers to elbow his way in, though it’s clear Harriet isn’t giving up without a fight.<\/p>\n

Debuting in 2020, Trying has quietly become one of the best comedies on Apple TV, earning consistently perfect ratings on Rotten Tomatoes on its most recent seasons. <\/p>\n

Following its premiere in early July, season 5 has garnered positive reviews and a critic score of 100% on the aggregator<\/a>, with Collider<\/a> praising it as “one of the best-written, best-acted, and most emotionally rewarding comedies on television”.<\/p>\n
