A young man who is charged with dangerous driving causing the death of a Limerick nurse has been charged with further offences in relation to the three-car collision.<\/p>\n
Keelan O’Connell, aged 19, of Scanlon Park, Castleconnell is charged with a number of offences, including dangerous driving causing the death of \u00c1ine O\u2019Reilly at N24, Grange West, Boher, County Limerick, on 13 February, 2026.<\/p>\n
At a previous hearing, it was alleged that Mr O\u2019Connell was driving a black 2007 VW Golf and attempted to undertake a Peugeot car.<\/p>\n
It is alleged Mr O\u2019Connell\u2019s VW Golf collided with the Peugeot forcing it into a collision with a Nissan Micra car, which was being driven by Ms O\u2019Reilly.<\/p>\n
The 33-year-old nurse from Pallasgreen, Co Limerick was driving to work at Shannondoc at the time of the crash.<\/p>\n
At a vacation sitting of Limerick District Court, Garda Tony Burke, of Henry Street Garda Station, gave evidence of the arrest, charge and caution of Mr O\u2019Connell, on foot of the new charges.<\/p>\n
The accused is charged with failing to offer assistance to the driver of the Peugeot involved in the collision, failing to report the collision to garda\u00ed, and failing to offer assistance to the driver and “did so with the intent to escape civil or criminal liability”.<\/p>\n
The three new charges are contrary to Section 106 (1) of the Road Traffic Act.<\/p>\n
Garda Burke told the court that Mr O\u2019Connell made no reply when charged and cautioned today.<\/p>\n
The court was told the Director of Public Prosecutions has directed the accused face trial on indictment.<\/p>\n
Solicitor Sarah Ryan said Mr O\u2019Connell was not making an application for bail today.<\/p>\n
Judge Catherine Ryan further remanded the accused in custody to appear before the court via video link next Wednesday, 12 August.<\/p>\n
