{"id":584131,"date":"2026-08-05T17:04:14","date_gmt":"2026-08-05T17:04:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/584131\/"},"modified":"2026-08-05T17:04:14","modified_gmt":"2026-08-05T17:04:14","slug":"derry-city-part-ways-with-manager-tiernan-lynch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/584131\/","title":{"rendered":"Derry City part ways with manager Tiernan Lynch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Derry City have parted ways with under-pressure manager Tiernan Lynch.<\/p>\n<p>The Candystripes are currently languishing in sixth position in the Premier Division having gone into the season with high expectations following a raft of high-profile signings, including former Republic of Ireland 100-cap man, James McClean.<\/p>\n<p>McClean and the now departed Lynch have clashed publicy in recent weeks, with the 35-year-old winger taking to social media to voice his displeasure at the goings on at the Brandywell.<\/p>\n<p>This week, on the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/sport\/soccer\/2026\/0803\/1586305-rte-soccer-podcast-is-pico-tired-disgrace-at-derry\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> RT\u00c9 Soccer podcast, stand-in host Alan Cawley and guests Keith Treacy and Paul Corry<\/a> delved into the turmoil at Derry and agreed that matters seemed to be coming to a head.<\/p>\n<p>Lynch&#8217;s final game in charge turned out to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/sport\/soccer\/2026\/0802\/1586162-clarke-rescues-point-but-lynch-tight-lipped-on-mcclean\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">last Sunday&#8217;s spiritied 1-1 draw away to St Patrick&#8217;s Athletic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Derry play Sligo Rovers at home this Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Connolly will step in on an interim basis.<\/p>\n<p>A statement from the club read: &#8220;Derry City Football Club can confirm that it has today parted company with First Team Manager Tiernan Lynch.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Tiernan for his professionalism, commitment and hard work during his time at Derry City.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mark Connolly will assume responsibility for first team affairs on an interim basis.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"youtube-container tpe\" data-embed=\"youtube\" data-id=\"P5eqVcxBacc\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Derry City have parted ways with under-pressure manager Tiernan Lynch.
