<\/p>\nA Wexford community has been left devastated following the sudden death of a 16-year-old girl during a ladies football final last night.<\/p>\n
Taghmon Camross GAA, LGFA and Camogie club have paid tribute to Aoibheann Clarke, who was playing for the club in the Girls Minor Division 6 Shield final in Taghmon.<\/p>\n
The game had entered injury time when she suddenly collapsed on the pitch.<\/p>\n
Efforts were made to help the girl at the scene.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed and the fire services also attended, while an air ambulance was overhead.<\/p>\n
She was brought to hospital by ambulance, where she died.<\/p>\n
The girl’s father had been officiating as linesman during the game.<\/p>\n
In a statement, Taghmon Camross said it was “heartbroken by the tragic loss” of their “cherished member” Aoibheann.<\/p>\n

It said: “At this incredibly difficult time, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who responded so quickly and compassionately to the emergency.<\/p>\n
“Our heartfelt thanks go to the spectators who assisted, the first responders, the ambulance service, garda and the fire crew for their professionalism, care, and support.<\/p>\n
“Our thoughts and prayers remain with our player’s family, friends, teammates, coaches, and all who knew and loved her. We ask that everyone respects the family’s privacy as they grieve this devastating loss.<\/p>\n
“Ar dheis D\u00e9 go raibh a hanam.”<\/p>\n
Aoibheann was well known in sporting circles as a gifted soccer player and lined out with All Blacks AFC and, formerly, Wexford FC.<\/p>\n
A few weeks ago, she helped the Wexford Women’s and Schoolgirls’ Soccer League team capture the FAI Women’s U19 Inter-League title, a source of massive pride and celebration at home.<\/p>\n
In a statement on social media, All Blacks said: “Last night we got the tragic news of the sudden passing of our beloved player Aoibheann Clarke. Declan and Carol had lost their beautiful daughter, Emma and Aimee lost their little sister and we lost a great teammate and friend.<\/p>\n
“Aoibheann – your strength and determination as a player was hard to match. Dependable, strong, consistent. When people told you no, you said (quietly) yes. Your quick wit and character as a person gained you many many friends, young and old. You will never be forgotten.<\/p>\n
“Aoibheann was a vital part of multiple club league titles, as well as this years U19 Interleague Cup with Wexford and will be greatly missed on and off the pitch for ever more.
