FIFA president Gianni Infantino is set to remain in post – for the moment – after marathon crisis talks in Morocco on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Infantino instead believes he is accountable to the 211 football associations which make up FIFA.<\/p>\n
He appears to have calculated he still has enough support – especially in parts of South America, Africa and Asia – to carry on.<\/p>\n
He was pictured at a Women’s AFCON game following the seven-hour meeting on Wednesday, smiling and sitting next to his secretary general Mattias Grafstrom – who was criticising him on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
It is now up to his critics to decide their next move.<\/p>\n
They could call an emergency FIFA Council meeting, or an emergency FIFA Congress and hold a vote of no confidence in Infantino.<\/p>\n
Otherwise, they have until November 18 to put up at least one rival candidate to take on Infantino in the next presidential election in March.<\/p>\n
