{"id":584616,"date":"2026-08-06T04:08:13","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T04:08:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/584616\/"},"modified":"2026-08-06T04:08:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T04:08:13","slug":"family-of-martha-nolan-oslatarra-file-wrongful-death-proceedings-in-us-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/584616\/","title":{"rendered":"Family of Martha Nolan-O\u2019Slatarra file wrongful death proceedings in US \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The family of Irish woman Martha Nolan-O\u2019Slatarra, who was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/world\/us\/2025\/08\/07\/irish-woman-found-dead-on-new-york-yacht-was-successful-entrepreneur\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/world\/us\/2025\/08\/07\/irish-woman-found-dead-on-new-york-yacht-was-successful-entrepreneur\/\">found dead on a yacht<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/new-york\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/new-york\/\">New York<\/a> last year, have filed wrongful death proceedings against the boat\u2019s owner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The 33-year-old from Co <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/carlow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/carlow\">Carlow<\/a> was found on a yacht owned by Christopher Durnan at a Montauk yacht club on August 5th, 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A postmortem examination did not show evidence of violence, according to Suffolk County police at the time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Her mother, Elma Nolan, has since filed legal proceedings in New York, seeking damages for the alleged wrongful death of her daughter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Nolan has claimed \u201cwrongful conduct\u201d on behalf of Durnan at the Star Island Yacht Club on the date of her daughter\u2019s death, alleging that he assaulted her daughter. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">She is also seeking damages for personal injuries and \u201cconscious pain and suffering\u201d allegedly sustained by her daughter before her death, according to legal papers filed on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">She also alleges gross negligence and \u201creckless and wanton conduct\u201d on behalf of Durnan, all of which she has claimed caused Martha Nolan-O\u2019Slatarra\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Should Durnan fail to engage, Nolan is seeking a default sum of $50 million in damages, alongside legal costs, or an amount to be later determined by a New York court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Originally from Monacurragh, near Carlow town, Martha Nolan-O\u2019Slatarra moved to the US in 2015.
