{"id":584996,"date":"2026-08-06T13:40:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T13:40:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/584996\/"},"modified":"2026-08-06T13:40:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T13:40:09","slug":"ireland-south-mep-says-new-national-play-strategy-needed-for-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/584996\/","title":{"rendered":"Ireland South MEP says new national play strategy needed for children"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Ireland South MEP says a new national play strategy is needed for children.<\/p>\n<p>Kilcummin native and Fine Gael MEP Se\u00e1n Kelly made the call.<\/p>\n<p>The existing strategy is 24-years-old and MEP Kelly says the childhood experience has changed dramatically in the intervening period.<\/p>\n<p>He says children spend more time on screens now, and he feels that more green spaces and play areas are needed for them; he also believes this would help with integration.<\/p>\n<p>MEP Se\u00e1n Kelly says such a strategy could be included as part of a housing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ie\/en\/department-of-children-disability-and-equality\/publications\/ready-steady-play-a-national-play-policy-2\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">strategy<\/a> to sure there are safe settings included in the development:<\/p>\n<p>MEP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiokerry.ie\/search?q=sean+kelly\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Se\u00e1n Kelly<\/a> believes it isn\u2019t as safe for children now as it was in his youth:<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"An Ireland South MEP says a new national play strategy is needed for children.
