Social media has been convinced that Reeves is filming \u201cThe Batman 2\u2033 and \u201cThe Batman 3\u2033 back to back, alleging this is one of the reasons his sequel to 2022\u2019s \u201cThe Batman\u201d spent so many years in development. Not so fast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tGunn was asked on Threads to confirm or deny the rumor about two \u201cBatman\u201d sequels shooting back to back, to which he bluntly answered: \u201cI can deny.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIt\u2019s not uncommon in Hollywood for studios to shoot sequels back to back as one huge production. This is how \u201cThe Matrix Reloaded\u201d and \u201cThe Matrix Revolutions\u201d were filmed after the blockbuster success of \u201cThe Matrix,\u201d for instance, as were \u201cPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man\u2019s Chest\u201d and \u201cAt World\u2019s End\u201d following the huge reception for \u201cThe Curse of the Black Pearl.\u201d Marvel shot \u201cAvengers: Infinity War\u201d and \u201cAvengers: Endgame\u201d as one production over the course of an entire year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWarner <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/film\/news\/the-batman-2-release-date-2028-first-footage-pattinson-1236811623\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bros. recently delayed <\/a>the release of \u201cThe Batman 2,\u201d which is now in production in London. The movie will open in theaters on Feb. 18, 2028, nearly six years after the March 2022 opening of \u201cThe Batman.\u201d Joining Pattinson in the long-delayed sequel are Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan, plus Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch. Reeves co-wrote the sequel\u2019s screenplay with Mattson Tomlin. Plot details remain under wraps, as do the roles being played by the film\u2019s supporting cast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe Batman Part II\u201d was originally supposed to open Oct. 2, 2026, before Warner Bros. delayed it to Oct. 1, 2027.
