Bohemian FC will have it all to do in the second leg of their UEFA Conference League third qualifying round, going down 2-0 to Danish side FC Midtjylland in the first-leg tie played at Tallaght Stadium.<\/p>\n
Midtjylland, who were dumped out of Europa League qualifying by Besiktas last week, scored in either half, and although Bohs battled throughout, they were no real match for a side that have featured regularly in European group and league phase competitions in recent seasons.<\/p>\n
Manager Alan Reynolds made four changes from the home draw against Galway United with Jordan Flores, Senan Mullen, Ross Tierney and Connor Parsons all in the starting XI, and the home side were under severe pressure early in the game with keeper Paul Walters having to save Valdemar Byskov Andreasen’s effort at the expense of a corner.<\/p>\n
Bohs, who had reached the third qualifying round courtesy of wins over St Joseph’s and Ballkani, didn’t yield after a succession of corners for the Danish side.<\/p>\n

In the 18th minute they had a really good chance when Flores found Tierney just inside the visitors’ area, but he couldn\u2019t set himself and his wild effort was well wide.<\/p>\n
The Gypsies now had a foothold in the game and just past the halfway point of the half, Connor Parsons got clear down the left, but with Douglas James-Taylor lurking in the middle, Parsons instead went for goal only to see his rising shot saved by Elias Olafsson.<\/p>\n
However, the visitors took the lead in the 28th minute as a cross by Sofus Johannesen from the right clipped the heels of a Bohs defender and it ran straight to Dju Franculino, who coolly rolled the ball to the bottom corner of the net, with the goal greeted with almost total silence.<\/p>\n
The Danish side were on top but were rather fortuitous when they conceded a corner 10 minutes before half-time as defender Sam Todd got a head to Flores\u2019 dead ball which hit the knees of Olafsson before gathering at the second attempt.<\/p>\n
Bohs again defended well in the early part of the second half, but were guilty of giving the ball on occasions which allowed Midtjylland to make a number of quick breaks, putting even more pressure on Reynolds’ side.<\/p>\n

\nIt was a frustrating night for Dawson Devoy and Bohs<\/p>\n
In the 58th minute, Bohemians were awarded a penalty when Tierney was taken down in the area by Denil Castillo, but VAR intervened cancelling out the Romanian referee\u2019s decision, spotting Tierney was offside.<\/p>\n
Midtjylland possibly put the tie to bed in the 77th minute as the referee spotted a handball on the edge of the area by Dayle Rooney, and Byskov Andreasen floated the resultant free-kick into the top corner.<\/p>\n
Not long after conceding a second, Bohs substitute Colm Whelan flashed a shot across the goal, his effort just missing the far post.<\/p>\n
Late on Patrick Hickey’s header from a Dayle Rooney corner flew over the bar and Bohemians now face a huge task next week in the second leg at the MCH Arena in Herning.<\/p>\n
