\n\tSPOILER ALERT: This interview contains spoilers for, including the ending of, \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day<\/a>,\u201d now playing in theaters.<\/p>\n

\n\tFor more than a year, Sadie Sink<\/a> had to keep her role in \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day\u201d a secret. Sink, who was offered the part after her breakout performances in \u201cStranger Things<\/a>\u201d and \u201cThe Whale,\u201d showed up to the London set without having read a full script<\/a>. For security, her character was referred to with a code name.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen it came time to promote the film this summer, the trailers hadn\u2019t revealed more than the fact that Sink\u2019s character is a hooded figure with questionable intentions \u2014 and the ability to jump into anyone\u2019s mind. So, even as Sink showed up for photo calls with her co-stars Tom Holland and Zendaya and partook in interviews, she had to find creative ways to talk around what she\u2019d done on set.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs obvious as it might\u2019ve been to the Marvel faithful that Sink was playing Jean Grey, the Omega-level mutant who will go on to star in the studio\u2019s upcoming \u201cX-Men<\/a>\u201d movie, Sink wasn\u2019t going to be the one who spoiled it.<\/p>\n

\n\tAnd she didn\u2019t. Steve Lacy did \u2014 right at the finish line.<\/p>\n

\n\tAt the film\u2019s world premiere in Los Angeles, the R&B singer, who has a song on the \u201cBrand New Day\u201d soundtrack, revealed that his favorite character from the movie was the villain, \u201cJean,\u201d during the official red carpet live stream. \u201cShe\u2019s the villain but, like, there\u2019s a reason to her madness,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhat did Sink make of that moment? \u201cHonestly, it was amazing!\u201d Sink tells Variety, laughing. \u201cI was like, \u2018Ah!\u2019 He kind of set me free in a lot of ways. And I\u2019m such a big fan of his.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTo be fair, Sink had already told a few trusted people the truth, including her \u201cStranger Things\u201d bosses, Matt and Ross Duffer. But now that the movie is in theaters (supplanting \u201cAvengers: Endgame\u201d<\/a> as the biggest domestic debut in box office history\u00a0and grossing $1.15 billion<\/a> worldwide in just seven days) and Sink\u2019s secret identity is revealed, she\u2019s finally gotten the green light to discuss her experience as the third actress to play the role after Famke Janssen in Fox\u2019s \u201cX-Men\u201d movies and Sophie Turner in the 2010s reboot movies.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn her first interview since \u201cBrand New Day\u201d debuted, Sink explains how she got cast in the role, how she developed her take on the character and her excitement about what\u2019s to come when Jean joins the X-Men. The one thing Sink can\u2019t reveal is how many Marvel movies she\u2019s signed on for.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI can\u2019t really say \u2026\u201d Sink demurs when asked if her contract runs two movies or 10. (Kevin Feige is always watching.)<\/p>\n
