German champions Bayern took the lead in the first half through Kim Min-jae’s close-range effort.<\/p>\n
Substitute Diaz doubled their lead with a fine curled finish which went in off the underside of the crossbar.<\/p>\n
Villa pulled one back late on through Joao Gomes’ well-taken finish from just outside the box.<\/p>\n
The Brazil international joined Villa from neighbours Wolves last month in a \u00a338m deal.<\/p>\n
Tammy Abraham almost equalised but his header was well saved by Manuel Neuer.<\/p>\n
Bayern played several youngsters, while regular starters Michael Olise and Harry Kane did not travel as they recover from the World Cup.<\/p>\n
Bayern boss Vincent Kompany said: “I told the players honestly that I was impressed because you know who’s there and you know who’s not there.<\/p>\n
“It’s difficult to go into these games and still look [like] the Bayern Munich that we can be.”<\/p>\n
Europa League holders Villa face Paris St-Germain in the Uefa Super Cup on Wednesday in Salzburg (20:00 BST).<\/p>\n
Villa defender Pau Torres said: “It was a really good game, a really good test for us to prepare for the final next week.<\/p>\n
“It’s always good to play against one team like them [Bayern].<\/p>\n
