Two teenage girls are recovering in hospital after jumping from a third-storey window after their house caught on fire.<\/p>\n
The fire occurred at a property in Sl\u00ed Gheal, Knocknacarra, Galway, at around 6pm on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The two girls received medical treatment at the scene before being brought to University Hospital Galway (UHG) by ambulance. They are undergoing treatment for non-life threatening injuries sustained in the fall.<\/p>\n
Their three younger siblings were rescued by two neighbours, who entered the burning building prior to the arrival of the fire service.<\/p>\n
One of the girls was in the high dependency unit at UHG after undergoing an operation yesterday, while the other was due to have surgery this morning.<\/p>\n
Two people who live in the area were the first to respond to the blaze, entering the building and evacuating three children, according to eyewitnesses.<\/p>\n
Two of the girls had been trapped in a room on the third floor of the building.<\/p>\n
The children in the family range in age from four to 17.<\/p>\n
The fire was extinguished by the local fire service but reignited shortly after midnight, requiring them to attend the scene again.<\/p>\n
It is understood that no foul play is suspected at this time.<\/p>\n
