Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 17 in Europe, starting at \u20ac219 (around \u00a3185\u2013195) for the base 4GB\/128GB model \u2014 a direct play for the crowded sub-\u20ac250 segment where Samsung and Motorola are pushing harder than ever. The phone is already on shelves at major German retailers and available through official Xiaomi channels in Spain, per Notebookcheck<\/a>. Other European markets are expected to follow in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

The hardware<\/p>\n

The Redmi 17 is a 4G-only device powered by the MediaTek Helio G91 Ultra \u2014 no 5G, full stop. At this price in 2025, that’s a meaningful limitation; most competing handsets in this bracket now offer 5G as standard. The 6.9-inch Full HD+ display runs at 120Hz, which has become the baseline expectation even at the budget end. Storage starts at 128GB and goes up to 256GB, with RAM beginning at 4GB.<\/p>\n

The headline spec is the battery: 7,500 mAh with 45W fast charging, which Xiaomi claims fills the phone in around 96 minutes. That cell size should comfortably deliver two days of moderate use \u2014 a genuine strength in this price range.<\/p>\n

The main camera is a 50MP shooter. It handles daylight shots well enough but won’t impress in low light. The phone runs HyperOS 3 on top of Android 16 out of the box.<\/p>\n

The competition problem<\/p>\n

Here’s the catch. Samsung’s Galaxy A35 sits in the same \u20ac189\u2013229 window and comes with a four-year OS update guarantee and an IP67 water-resistance rating. Motorola’s Moto G 2026 undercuts the Redmi 17 at around \u20ac170\u2013200 with a stronger reputation for timely software support. Neither of those rivals is stuck on 4G.<\/p>\n

Xiaomi’s update commitment for the Redmi 17 hasn’t been spelled out clearly, and the European version omits a charger in the box \u2014 a cost-cutting move consistent with the brand’s recent budget-line strategy on this side of the world.<\/p>\n

A soft launch in Poland showed pricing in the \u20ac210\u2013255 range, per GSMArena<\/a>, suggesting the \u20ac219 German price is the realistic floor across the continent.<\/p>\n

The Redmi 17 is a sensible phone for anyone who wants a large screen, a long-lasting battery, and simple daily tasks covered cheaply.
