Apple has just issued a single but important security update for Macs as the iPhone maker continues to keep on top of patches in between cycles.<\/p>\n
The update fixing a Screen Sharing bug comes less than two weeks after the previous patches issued alongside iOS 26.6<\/a>.<\/p>\n So what\u2019s in the latest Apple security updates?<\/p>\n What Has Apple Released?<\/p>\n First things first. The updates are macOS Tahoe 26.6.1, macOS Sequoia 15.79 and macOS Sonoma 14.8.9. All three of the upgrades include a fix for a bug in Screen Sharing, which could allow an attacker on the network to authenticate to Screen Sharing without the need for valid credentials. Tracked as CVE-2026-65400<\/a>, the authentication issue was addressed with improved state management, according to Apple\u2019s support page<\/a>.<\/p>\n How Serious Is The Apple Screen Sharing Bug?<\/p>\n The latest Screen Sharing bug follows another one released as part of a larger set of updates alongside iOS 26.6 in late July, tracked as CVE-2026-43760. Security firm Huntress says the latest flaw, CVE-2026-65400, the more serious of the two, exploits a bug in the Screen Sharing service\u2019s implementation of Secure Remote Password, which \u201cultimately allows pre-authenticated remote code execution on all supported macOS versions,\u201d according to Huntress principal security operations center analyst Ryan Dowd<\/a>.<\/p>\n This means that an attacker could run malicious code on the victim system without having to log in as a root user, says Dowd. In other words, it\u2019s pretty bad. <\/p>\n Anybody who leverages Apple\u2019s Screen Sharing functionality on any supported macOS version needs to \u201capply the most recent security updates immediately,\u201d Dowd wrote.<\/p>\n The company has shared a more detailed analysis on a blog<\/a> on its website.<\/p>\n Apple iOS 26.6.1 Is About To Land<\/p>\n The updates for Macs come as Apple is preparing iOS 26.6.1 for release, according to MacRumors<\/a>. With iOS 27 on its way in September, and AI accelerating bug hunting, Apple is keeping on top of bugs and security fixes<\/a> in its older software. <\/p>\n For this reason I expect iOS 26.6.1 to contain one or more security fixes \u2014 although they might not be big ones.
