following an incident involving self-harm which was livestreamed on TikTok.<\/a><\/p>\nIn a statement posted on his Perez Hilton website on Saturday, his family said he remains in hospital and will require surgery.<\/p>\n
“Perez\u2019s condition remains serious but stable,” the statement said.<\/p>\n
“He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days.<\/p>\n
“His treatment and recovery will be a long process.<\/p>\n
“We are grateful that Perez was able to spend time with his mother and sister yesterday.”<\/p>\n
His family said his communication has been “extremely limited and confined to immediate family, medical providers, and others directly involved in his care”.<\/p>\n
It added that Hilton “has not communicated with the media or issued any public statements” and said his website was the only place where “credible and authorised” updates would be published.<\/p>\n
“As our family remains focused on Perez\u2019s treatment and recovery, we also need the space and privacy to care for everyone affected by this situation,” the statement said.<\/p>\n
Hilton\u2019s family and team previously described the situation as an “incredibly difficult” and “heartbreaking” time.<\/p>\n
The Miami-Dade Sheriff\u2019s Office said on Tuesday that deputies had responded to reports of a man “livestreaming acts of self-harm”, but did not identify him.<\/p>\n
Authorities said the man was alone in the house at the time.<\/p>\n
Hilton\u2019s TikTok account was subsequently suspended.<\/p>\n
Born Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr in Miami, Hilton rose to prominence in the 2000s through his celebrity gossip website PerezHilton.com.<\/p>\n
His pseudonym is a play on the name of socialite Paris Hilton, who was one of the most prominent celebrities of the period.<\/p>\n
His provocative coverage of celebrities drew widespread criticism, including over his practice of publicly identifying people he claimed were gay.<\/p>\n
Hilton later became a television personality, appearing on programmes including Celebrity Rap Superstar and Celebrity Big Brother.<\/p>\n
He has three children, a son and two daughters, who were born via surrogate.<\/p>\n
