Consumer spending in Mayo across hospitality, restaurants, and fast food exploded in the wake of the county\u2019s All-Ireland senior football win last month, with spending in pubs alone increasing over 210%, data from AIB\u2019s Spend Trend shows.<\/p>\n
According to the data, in Mayo, pub spend over the three days from All-Ireland Final day, Sunday, July 26, to Tuesday, July 28 was up 210% compared to the same period in 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Restaurant spend was 58% higher over the same three days versus the same time last year, while fast food spend rose 43%.<\/p>\n
Across the month, sports store spending was up 138% year on year, as supporters stocked up on jerseys, flags, scarves and other gear.<\/p>\n
On the day of the hurling All-Ireland final, where Limerick came out as winners, supporters increased their in-store spend in Dublin by 33% compared with semi-final day, while disappointed Galway supporters\u2019 spend was down 6%.<\/p>\n
Cork customers spent 20% more in Dublin on their semi-final day than Galway and Limerick customers combined spent in the capital on the final day.<\/p>\n
Overall, the latest AIB Spend Trend shows that July was a strong month for consumer spending, with overall spend up 5% year on year and in-store spend also up 5%. Online spending was slightly lower, down 1% year on year.<\/p>\n
Spending on accommodation during the month was up 9% while spending on restaurants was up 8%, and pubs up 4% compared to last year.<\/p>\n
Spending in amusement parks and carnivals was up 9%, and entertainment spending was up 6%.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Cinemas also had a strong July with average daily spend 13% higher than July last year.<\/p>\n
Head of consumer at AIB Adrian Moynihan said sport played a \u201cbig role\u201d in consumer spending during July with Mayo and Limerick winning the All-Ireland football and hurling finals respectively.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe can see that feeding through into local businesses, hospitality and spending in many locations around big match days,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe good weather also helped Irish tourism and leisure businesses, with more people choosing days out and breaks at home, while cinema spending remained strong thanks to some big releases.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
