Israel<\/a> has rejected US president Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s \u200cBoard of Peace 15-point plan for \u200bGaza, and will not withdraw until Hamas fully disarms, prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu<\/a> \u200bsaid on Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cIsrael rejects the 15-point document,\u201d Netanyahu said, referring to a plan endorsed in late July by Hamas.<\/p>\n

The Israeli military \u201cwill not carry out any withdrawal until Hamas is genuinely disarmed and will continue to thwart threats against our forces and our citizens,\u201d Netanyahu said at a cabinet meeting.<\/p>\n

The document, the latest stage in a US-led ceasefire announced in October that has reduced but not ended Israeli operations in Gaza, said Hamas would surrender weapons to a nascent Palestinian governing body.<\/p>\n

The plan said Israel would begin pulling out forces in tandem with the disarmament, an idea adamantly rejected by Israel which also wants Hamas to destroy its weapons.<\/p>\n

Netanyahu said Israel was speaking with the US about its objections. \u201cThey have ideas; some of them are acceptable to us and some are not, and we know how to stand our ground on these matters,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Netanyahu said Hamas must give up all of its weapons, a goal that Board of Peace members say is not realistically achievable. \u201cWe are talking about real disarmament, not fictitious disarmament,\u201d Netanyahu said.<\/p>\n

Trump announced last month there had been \u200ca breakthrough \u200cin \u200bhis plan to end the war, which \u2060both \u200bIsrael and Hamas agreed \u200bto last year and \u200cwhich started with the \u200bceasefire.<\/p>\n

Israel has continued to carry \u2060out strikes \u2060on \u200bGaza since agreeing to the ceasefire last October.<\/p>\n

Trump said that Hamas, which ruled Gaza for nearly two decades before carrying out \u200cthe October \u20607th, 2023, attack on Israel that triggered the Gaza \u200cwar, had agreed to lay down \u200bits weapons. <\/p>\n

Israel\u2019s military on Sunday closed the West Bank \u200cvillage of Taybeh to non-residents, saying it aimed to prevent growing attacks on Palestinians by \u200cIsraeli settlers across the West Bank.<\/p>\n

The order, the military said, only applies to Israelis and not \u200bPalestinians. A spokesperson said turning Taybeh into a closed military zone was \u201cdue to some violent attacks by Israelis in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cUpon receiving any report of violations of the order, \u200bIDF soldiers are dispatched to the area and operate to disperse the gatherings and detain suspects in \u2060order to protect the citizens of the area and to maintain \u200corder,\u201d \u200cthe \u200bmilitary said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Taybeh is one of the only Christian villages remaining in the West Bank and was \u2060visited last year by the \u200bGreek Orthodox patriarch and the Roman Catholic \u200bcardinal of Jerusalem.<\/p>\n

It is also home to the Taybeh Brewing Co, \u200cwidely considered the Middle East\u2019s oldest \u200bmicrobrewery.<\/p>\n

Some western countries have announced sanctions on settler groups over violent Israeli attacks \u2060on Palestinians.<\/p>\n

In June, Israeli \u2060settlers obstructed Palestinians \u200bputting out a large blaze near Taybeh in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, according to Palestinian civil defence firefighters and a local priest who described an \u201congoing pattern of intimidation and unjustified violence\u201d that undermined the residents\u2019 fundamental rights.<\/p>\n

A UN inquiry released on Tuesday found that Israeli authorities were directly involved in settler attacks that have killed, injured and \u200cdisplaced Palestinians in the \u2060West Bank.<\/p>\n

Parts of Taybeh are located in Area B, where the PA runs civil administration but where security control must be co-ordinated \u200cwith Israeli authorities.<\/p>\n
