{"id":589346,"date":"2026-08-10T23:12:12","date_gmt":"2026-08-10T23:12:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/589346\/"},"modified":"2026-08-10T23:12:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T23:12:12","slug":"limited-edition-sultans-of-ping-jersey-raises-e10k-for-charity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/589346\/","title":{"rendered":"Limited edition Sultans of Ping jersey raises \u20ac10k for charity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"contextmenu internal_Body1st\">A limited edition <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.echolive.ie\/corksport\/arid-41718642.html\"> jersey <\/a>by football supporters trust FORAS, which pays tribute to rock band the Sultans of Ping, has raised more than \u20ac10,000 for a Cork-based Down Syndrome charity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The Board of FORAS (Friends of the Rebel Army Society) joined with Sultans drummer Morty McCarthy to present a cheque for \u20ac10,163 to Down Syndrome Ireland Cork at the Field of Dreams at Curraheen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Nikky Slattery, operations manager at Down Syndrome Cork\u2019s Field of Dreams, said that the donation will help fund three key programmes: an upgrade to their charity shop, which underpins a retail training programme for adult members; updating laptops for students taking part in education programmes; and continued support for the employment support team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The official launch of the jersey was held at Coughlan\u2019s Bar on Douglas Street \u2013 where the first prototype of the jersey hangs framed on the wall, signed by the Sultans of Ping.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The striped O\u2019Neill\u2019s shirt is in the green and red FORAS colours, emblazoned with The Sultans of Ping logo across the chest and an embroidered FORAS logo as its badge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">FORAS chairman Darren O\u2019Keeffe said demand for the shirt was huge when announced last October, with orders coming in from Ireland, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">He said: \u201cThe response to the jersey was phenomenal. We had a much smaller target in mind in terms of how much we were hoping to raise &#8211; within an hour of orders going live we realised our expectations were far too modest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cThere are six of us on the board and we had a few very busy weeks, from managing orders and requests to working with O\u2019Neill\u2019s to produce the jerseys.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cWe had boxes of shirts stored in our houses and spare rooms were turned into mail processing centres \u2013 we bagged, tagged, and posted each and every order ourselves.
