{"id":591074,"date":"2026-08-12T16:02:14","date_gmt":"2026-08-12T16:02:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/591074\/"},"modified":"2026-08-12T16:02:14","modified_gmt":"2026-08-12T16:02:14","slug":"how-and-where-to-see-a-solar-eclipse-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/591074\/","title":{"rendered":"How and where to see a solar eclipse today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Summer&#8217;s slipping away and the news cycle is churning into overdrive, but there&#8217;s something you should stop and pay attention to: a solar eclipse<\/p>\n<p>A solar eclipse is happening on Wednesday, Aug. 12, and the path of totality falls outside the United States. <\/p>\n<p>The total eclipse will be visible in parts of Greenland, Iceland, Spain, Portugal, and northern Russia, but &#8230; we&#8217;re saying there&#8217;s a chance where you live. See the states where it will be visible, and the time frame, below<\/p>\n<p>Americans can also watch the full eclipse live on this video feed.<\/p>\n<p>A partial eclipse will be visible in the Northeast, Midwest, and Alaska. In the U.S., the eclipse begins around 11:34 a.m. ET and reaches its maximum point at approximately 1:46 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n<p>Residents in certain states may catch a glimpse of the event, weather permitting. Per NASA, people in these states should look up in those hours to see the moon take at least a little bite out of our sun.<\/p>\n<p>Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, D.C., West Virginia, Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/total-solar-eclipse-august-12-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">CBS News<\/a> says about 230 million people will be able to see 90% totality, according to population<a href=\"https:\/\/ciesin.columbia.edu\/content\/data\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"> data<\/a> from the Center for International Earth Science Information Network at Columbia University.<\/p>\n<p>The best place to see it in the U.S. is in Fairbanks, Alaska, where it will reach 37% totality, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/boston\/news\/solar-eclipse-meteor-shower-august-12-boston\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Boston<\/a> at 16% totality, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/solar-eclipse-today-august-12-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">New York City<\/a> with  9% totality, Toronto, with 8% and Philadelphia, 7%.<\/p>\n<p>For those in North America seeing a partial eclipse, CBS reports it will be most full in Toronto at 1:40 p.m. and New York City at 1:54 p.m. local time<\/p>\n<p>And if you&#8217;re reading this from one of the places in the path, don&#8217;t forget not to take it in with your bare eyes.
