{"id":591643,"date":"2026-08-13T04:06:23","date_gmt":"2026-08-13T04:06:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/591643\/"},"modified":"2026-08-13T04:06:23","modified_gmt":"2026-08-13T04:06:23","slug":"major-development-proposed-in-killarney-could-provide-one-of-kerrys-first-affordable-housing-schemes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/591643\/","title":{"rendered":"Major development proposed in Killarney could provide one of Kerry\u2019s first affordable housing schemes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Planning is sought for 123 new homes in Killarney, which would provide one of Kerry\u2019s first affordable housing schemes.<\/p>\n<p>Wrightwood Developments Ltd has applied for planning to build the housing units at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiokerry.ie\/news\/ardshanavooley\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ardshanavooley<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The company previously applied for planning for 124 units on the same site, but withdrew that application.<\/p>\n<p>The site of around 2.2-hectares is to the north east of Killarney town centre, surrounded by the Burr Ridge residential development to the south, and Deerpark Pitch and Putt Club to the north.<\/p>\n<p>The development on that site will include a mix of apartments, maisonettes, and terraced houses, while it will also include 139 car parking spaces and 272 bicycle spaces.<\/p>\n<p>Wrightwood Developments Ltd previously applied for planning for 124 units on the same site, but the company withdrew that application and has now lodged a fresh planning application.<\/p>\n<p>The company has said it\u2019s made minor amendments to some units, which will allow them to qualify for the affordable housing scheme.<\/p>\n<p>The planning application says 20 townhouse units will be offered under the affordable housing scheme.<\/p>\n<p>Under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiokerry.ie\/news\/affordable-housing\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">affordable housing<\/a> initiative, developers offer the council properties with planning under an advance purchase turnkey arrangement, and the council subsidises the cost of delivering the housing.<\/p>\n<p>Properties sold under affordable housing schemes must be offered 15% cheaper than comparable new-builds.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kerrycoco.ie\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kerry County Council<\/a> had invited expressions of interest from developers to provide affordable housing in Tralee and Killarney only, with the first homes expected to be delivered next year.<\/p>\n<p>As well as affordable housing, the planning application for the Ardshanavooley development says the developer will also provide 25 units for social and affordable housing.<\/p>\n<p>The planning application says all issues raised by the council in the previously withdrawn application have been fully addressed in the current one, and it will provide a high-quality new community in Killarney.<\/p>\n<p>Kerry County Council is due to decide on the application by 24th September.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Planning is sought for 123 new homes in Killarney, which would provide one of Kerry\u2019s first affordable housing&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":591644,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[72,61,60],"class_list":["post-591643","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-business","tag-business","tag-ie","tag-ireland"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/591643","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=591643"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/591643\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/591644"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=591643"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=591643"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=591643"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
