MONEA man Se\u00e1n Hoy has officially taken up one of Ireland\u2019s most senior diplomatic postings after beginning his term as Ambassador to South Korea.<\/p>\n
Se\u00e1n Hoy this week presented his credentials to South Korean President Lee Jae-myung in Seoul, formally commencing his role as Ireland\u2019s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea.<\/p>\n
The appointment marks another milestone in Mr Hoy\u2019s career who has represented Ireland across Africa and South America during more than three decades in public service.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Hoy joined Ireland\u2019s Department of Foreign Affairs in 1990 and has previously served as Ambassador to Brazil and Nigeria.<\/p>\n
He has also held diplomatic responsibility for a number of other countries, including Ghana, Guyana and Suriname.<\/p>\n
Speaking after presenting his credentials, Ambassador Hoy said he was looking forward to strengthening the relationship between Ireland and South Korea.<\/p>\n
\u201cI look forward to working closely together to further solidify the friendship between our two countries,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Monea man\u2019s latest posting comes after a career that has taken him across the globe, but his achievements have continued to be followed with pride in his native Fermanagh.<\/p>\n
South Korea is one of Asia\u2019s leading economies and an increasingly important partner for Ireland in areas including trade, investment, education and culture.<\/p>\n
As ambassador, Mr Hoy will lead Ireland\u2019s diplomatic mission in Seoul and work to deepen ties between the two nations.<\/p>\n
