{"id":592522,"date":"2026-08-14T00:24:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-14T00:24:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/592522\/"},"modified":"2026-08-14T00:24:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-14T00:24:08","slug":"doctors-fighting-potentially-serious-infection-outbreak-at-neonatal-icu-in-limerick-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/592522\/","title":{"rendered":"Doctors fighting potentially serious infection outbreak at neonatal ICU in Limerick \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">An outbreak of a potentially serious infectious disease has been confirmed at a neonatal intensive care unit in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/limerick\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/limerick\/\">Limerick<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Some of the infants in the unit at University Maternity Hospital Limerick have contracted pseudomonas, a hospital-acquired infection that can be resistant to antibiotics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/hse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/hse\/\">HSE<\/a> Mid-West confirmed it is managing an outbreak, and a multidisciplinary team has been put in place to deal with it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">While confirming a number of infants in the unit have contracted the infection, the HSE said none have had adverse outcomes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Infants that have been discharged from hospital have been \u201cdoing well, with no reported clinical concerns identified\u201d, it said.
