As the demand for homes here in Cork remains sky high, one of the county’s largest housing developments just got even bigger after receiving the green light from the council.<\/p>\n
This week, Cork County Council <\/a>approved the fourth phase of the massive Janeville development in Carrigaline, which aims to bring a total of 1,100 units to the town. The latest application submitted by Astra Construction Services Limited in March sought permission to build 194 houses and 35 apartments on the town’s north side.<\/p>\n The new homes will be built on agricultural land near the Shannonpark Roundabout, near where works have been carried out on the M28 project in recent weeks. Family homes make up the majority of this phase of the development, accounting for 149 of the 194 planned dwellings. Permission has also been granted for 6 four-bedroom homes<\/a>, 35 two-bedroom homes and a single one-bedroom property.<\/p>\n The 35 apartments will consist of 34 one-bedroom units and a single three-bedroom unit. The development also includes the partial demolition and restoration of an existing two-storey farmhouse and ancillary building to the northeast of the site, which will accommodate the additional 3 no. apartment units.<\/p>\n Alongside the new units, permission has been granted for the construction of amenity areas, footpaths, bicycle parking, and landscaping works. Access to the site will be provided via a new estate entrance along Rock Road. The new roads and footpaths will be integrated with the existing Janeville road network, as approved in prior planning applications to Cork County Council.<\/p>\n While the development is located along the busiest road in Carrigaline, the developers have taken this into account, and the latest planning application includes the installation of a ‘noise attenuation screen’ along the northern boundary. This is designed to dampen the sound of traffic entering the town via the Shannonpark Roundabout.<\/p>\n The only three submissions made in respect of the application came from state agencies, with no objections lodged by members of the public against this phase of the development. Permission was granted subject to 54 conditions which aim to protect the local ecosystem, any items or areas of archaeological significance, and to ensure that traffic disruption and noise are kept to acceptable levels.<\/p>\n The approval of this development follows a recent update to the Cork County Development Plan, which aims to facilitate the construction of up to 50,000 new homes over the next ten years.<\/p>\n Large tracts of land across the county have been rezoned for residential<\/a> use, following months of public engagement with communities and stakeholders. The plan will deliver a baseline of 38,370 new homes over the next decade, with the potential to deliver almost 13,000 more.<\/p>\n
