\n\tPixar<\/a> has lined up its next original movie \u2014\u00a0and it\u2019s harkening back to the supernatural.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe studio has lined up \u201cGhost Street,\u201d a film inspired by Asian myths of stores where the living and dead interact, for a spring 2028 release, Pixar chief content officer Pete Doctor revealed during D23, Disney\u2019s fan convention.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cKyle is a fast-talking teenager and content creator from Chicago,\u201d\u00a0Doctor said. \u201cHis life gets turned upside down when his mom forces him to go on vacation to Hawaii. He stumbles into a mysterious hidden market in the middle of nowhere. He realizes his hunt for a late-night snack has turned into something bigger. He\u2019s discovered the crossroads of the living and the dead.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNews of the project first emerged<\/a> in March in a Wall Street Journal look at the studio, a report that said it would be directed by Trevor Jimenez, a Pixar veteran and the director of the 2017 Oscar-nominated short film \u201cWeekends.\u201d With 2028\u2019s release of \u201cThe Incredibles 3,\u201d \u201cOno Ghost Street\u201d continues Pixar\u2019s recent streak of multiple films in a calendar year following this year\u2019s dual releases of \u201cHoppers\u201d and \u201cToy Story 5,\u201d 2022\u2019s \u201cTurning Red\u201d and \u201cLightyear\u201d and 2020\u2019s \u201cOnward\u201d and \u201cSoul,\u201d among others.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film was initially planned as a streaming series before the animation studio elevated it to a feature film, according to the Wall Street Journal<\/a>, similar to Walt Disney Animation\u2019s pivot for \u201cMoana 2.\u201d That film grossed $1.01 billion in 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe studio\u2019s recent releases include \u201cToy Story 5\u201d and \u201cInside Out 2,\u201d which both grossed over $1 billion worldwide, while their original slate has included \u201cHoppers,\u201d \u201cElio\u201d and \u201cElemental.\u201d \u201cGatto\u201d is the studio\u2019s next original film, set for a March 5 release.<\/p>\n
