\n\tCoco<\/a> 2 is coming to life. <\/p>\n

\n\tAt the studio\u2019s D23<\/a> fan event on Friday night, Benjamin Bratt was on hand to announce he would reprise his role as Ernesto de la Cruz in the sequel, which would be set a few years after the first film and see lead character Miguel as a teenager. <\/p>\n

\n\tWhile to most fans the character is a hero, Bratt joked that \u201cto some, he\u2019s a little menace who ruined a career and destroyed a legacy. Ernesto de la Cruz is back for revenge, sending Miguel on an adventure back to the Land of the Dead.\u201d The actor also revealed that the sequel is set for a November 2029 release. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe studio also revealed it would launch the original film the new original Pixar<\/a> movie Ghost Market, about ghosts and a content creator who goes to Hawaii and discovers the crossroad of the living and the dead. It is expected for 2028. The clip showed a teenager wandering around the store as ramen bowls float into the air and come crashing down around the room. No cast or director was revelaed.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs for Coco 2, former Disney<\/a> CEO Bob Iger first announced that it was in development<\/a> last year, saying the movie was in the early stages and a theatrical release was set for 2029. The sequel will bring back members of the creative team from the original film, including director Lee Unkrichn and co-director Adrian Molina, and Mark Nielsen (of\u00a0Toy Story 4 and Inside Out 2) will produce.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhile the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart and adventure, and we can\u2019t wait to share more soon,\u201d Iger said at the time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe original film\u00a0was released in 2017, following a 12-year-old boy who dreams of becoming a musician and is accidentally transported to the Land of the Dead. While there he seeks out his great-great-grandfather, a deceased musician, to help him convince their family to allow him to play music.\u00a0Anthony Gonzalez, Gael Garc\u00eda Bernal, Bratt and Edward James Olmos\u00a0led the voice cast.<\/p>\n

\n\tCoco\u00a0went on to win two Academy Awards for best animated feature and best original song, \u201cRemember Me,\u201d written by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. The sequel is not the only Coco expansion the company has in the works, as Disney is also planning a\u00a0Coco\u00a0attraction that is slated to come to Disney California Adventure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Coco 2 is coming to life.
