This weekend marks nine years since the death of Joe Deacy, who died after a violent assault in Mayo in August 2017.<\/p>\n
In the early morning of 12 August that year, the 21-year-old was found unconscious outside a house he had been staying in at Gortnasillagh outside Swinford.<\/p>\n
Mr Deacy – who was from London but of Mayo descent – had sustained serious head injuries through blunt force trauma, and he died the following evening in Dublin’s Beaumont Hospital.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed initially treated the incident as an accident, but his death was later upgraded to a murder investigation.<\/p>\n
Political Correspondent Barry Lenihan – who has been covering the story for several years – recently spoke to Mr Deacy’s father Adrian, and told Behind the Story the question of who killed him remains a mystery.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed have stated they believe the key to solving the case lies within the local community.<\/p>\n
