{"id":593953,"date":"2026-08-15T10:12:10","date_gmt":"2026-08-15T10:12:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/593953\/"},"modified":"2026-08-15T10:12:10","modified_gmt":"2026-08-15T10:12:10","slug":"family-of-irish-teenager-who-died-in-greece-consider-legal-action-over-his-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/593953\/","title":{"rendered":"Family of Irish teenager who died in Greece consider legal action over his death"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The family of an Irish tourist who lost his life while having a shower in Greece is considering legal action over his death.<\/p>\n<p>17-year-old Alex McKee, from Cork City, collapsed while having a shower on August 9th on the Greek resort of the Aegean island of Kimolos.<\/p>\n<p>An autopsy held on Friday, August 14th, confirmed that electrocution was the cause of death.<\/p>\n<p>McKee was a fifth-year student at Terence MacSwiney Community College in Knocknaheeny on Cork City\u2019s northside. He was due to start his Leaving Cert year in September.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on behalf of the family, prominent lawyer in Greece Stelios Voudouris said there was \u201cclearly huge criminal responsibility\u201d for a tragedy that could have been avoided.<\/p>\n<p>He told Open TV: \u201cFrom what has emerged, it seems the electric panel was installed without a safety valve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, August 14th, police confirmed that a water heater in the house was now the focus of investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The police said \u201cWe have sealed off the building. It\u2019s a crime scene. \u201cPeople feel very strongly about what has happened. She said she could feel the electricity supply.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alex McKee gained national recognition earlier this year when he was part of an award-winning Young Scientist &amp; Technology Exhibition project, which gained national acclaim.<\/p>\n<p>He and two classmates developed &#8216;Bumblebee,&#8217; a communication system for people with nonverbal autism.
