Actress Lucy Davis<\/a>, best known for her turn as receptionist Dawn Tinsley on the original incarnation of The Office, disclosed on social media that she is suffering an \u201cincurable\u201d form of breast cancer. Along with a video of her ringing the chemo treatment completion bell, Davis wrote on Instagram<\/a> that she was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer a year-and-a-half ago, which has metastasized to her bones. \u201cSpecifically to my spine, right hip and my ribs,\u201d she writes. \u201cThe cancer is incurable, and too late for chemo.\u201d Davis continues, \u201cThe initial lump that I felt, wasn\u2019t a \u2018lump\u2019 as such; rather a kind of hard spot. Really tiny. I almost didn\u2019t bother getting it checked. So I guess I\u2019m saying don\u2019t ignore anything\u2014get everything checked out.\u201d In addition to popularizing the role that would be adapted to different Offices around the world, Davis also starred in the BBC\u2019s famed adaptation of Pride And Prejudice, Shaun Of The Dead, and Wonder Woman. Most recently, she played Eva on the Disney Channel\u2019s The Villains Of Valley View.<\/p>\n

Davis plans to keep working, both as an actor (\u201cI\u2019m perfectly able to do so, and acting is one of the biggest joys of my life\u201d) and as an animal rights activist (\u201cIt\u2019s so important to me\u201d). However, she reports that the \u201cpain can be something else.\u201d She has trouble standing and walking for long periods and \u201cneeds to use a wheelchair sometimes (so if you see me toddling around in one, feel free to give me a push!).\u201d As is evident from that last quote, Davis maintains that her sense of humor \u201chas been the most vital to me.\u201d She\u2019s asked friends and family to \u201cmake fun of me as much as possible (which they\u2019re really good at).\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMost importantly of all,\u201d she continues, [is] to not treat me like a sick person. There\u2019s nothing that will make you feel more unwell than being treated as if you\u2019re unwell.\u201d Given the grim diagnosis, Davis is keeping her spirits high. \u201cI\u2019m not scared of whatever comes next. I\u2019m at peace with it. I\u2019ll see my Gracie sooner than expected, and for me, leaving my physical body just means going home. Any and all grieving is for my family; it\u2019s far harder for them than for me.\u201d<\/p>\n
