{"id":596103,"date":"2026-08-17T15:02:14","date_gmt":"2026-08-17T15:02:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/596103\/"},"modified":"2026-08-17T15:02:14","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T15:02:14","slug":"ntma-increases-state-savings-rates-for-first-time-in-three-years-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/596103\/","title":{"rendered":"NTMA increases State savings rates for first time in three years \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Ireland\u2019s State savings will see an increase in the rates applied to newly-issued products from the end of the month, after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/national-treasury-management-agency\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/national-treasury-management-agency\/\">National Treasury Management Agency<\/a> (NTMA) announced its first hike since October 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">From August 30th, the variable rate used to calculate the monthly prize bond fund will increase from 1 per cent to 1.5 per cent, meaning \u201cthe weekly draw will have more prizes and higher-value prizes,\u201d the NTMA said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">While the monthly top prize of \u20ac500,000 will remain unchanged, the weekly top prize will double to \u20ac100,000. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Other changes to the fund include 50 prizes of \u20ac1,000 being awarded every week, instead of the current arrangement of 20 prizes of \u20ac1,000 and 20 of \u20ac500. The remaining weekly prizes will increase from \u20ac75 to \u20ac100. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Some 10,000 prizes are expected to be awarded every week. All prizes are tax free. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The variable rate applied to post-office savings bank deposit accounts will rise by 0.5 per cent to 1.25 per cent, with deposit interest retention tax applied. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The annual equivalent rates (AER) will increase for three-year saving bonds by 0.64 per cent to 1.96 per cent; five-year saving certificate rates by 0.55 per cent to 2.29 per cent; six-year instalment saving rates by 0.58 per cent to 2.33 per cent; and 10-year national solidarity bond rates by 0.65 per cent to 2.66 per cent. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">T\u00e1naiste and Minister for Finance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/simon-harris\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/simon-harris\/\">Simon Harris<\/a> said the move was \u201ca measure that will help people who are saving and investing\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The various State savings products form part of Ireland\u2019s national debt.
