Deli Boys, a crime dramedy set in Philadelphia, has been canceled after two seasons, according to Deadline.<\/a> <\/p>\n The Hulu series followed a pair of Pakistani American brothers, Raj and Mir (played by Saagar Shaikh and Asif Ali, respectively), as they took over their deli-magnate father\u2019s empire \u2014 and reckoned with his secret criminal enterprises. <\/p>\n Created by Temple University<\/a> alum and former Philadelphia Weekly journalist Abdullah Saeed and executive produced by South Philly native Michelle Nader, Deli Boys packed plenty of Philly references into its 16-episode run, from SEPTA<\/a> jokes to expired Tastykakes and a Super Bowl<\/a> watch party. <\/p>\n \u00bb READ MORE: Hulu\u2019s \u2018Deli Boys\u2019 is a very Philly and very Pakistani comedy series<\/a><\/p>\n And the titular delicatessen, \u201cABC Deli,\u201d was inspired by a real Philly institution at Third and Poplar Streets in Northern Liberties<\/a>. <\/p>\n The show, however, was filmed in Chicago. <\/p>\n Deli Boys also centered on South Asian characters, with the core cast being of South Asian descent \u2014 a \u201crarity in Hollywood in 2026,\u201d Deadline wrote. <\/p>\n \u201cThank you to every brown and Muslim and Pakistani and immigrant person who saw themselves in my show,\u201d Saeed wrote on Instagram<\/a>. \u201cI created this world and these characters for YOU.\u201d<\/p>\n Saeed told the next generation in his post: \u201cI hope I helped you see that you deserve the airwaves, no matter how hard you have to fight for your rightful place.\u201d <\/p>\n Queer Eye star Tan France, who played a British Pakistani gang leader on the show\u2019s first season, previously told The Inquirer<\/a> that the show \u201crepresents us [South Asians] so beautifully.\u201d <\/p>\n France reprised his role for season two, and Saturday Night Live alum Fred Armisen also joined the cast as a Philly gambling savant. <\/p>\n Deli Boys \u201cgives us a chance to be real, fully formed humans,\u201d France said. <\/p>\n The show \u201cfailed to find a wide enough audience\u201d to justify a third season, according to Variety<\/a>, and sources told Deadline the show\u2019s cancellation was due to ratings. <\/p>\n Both seasons are streaming on Hulu<\/a>. <\/p>\n
