TRIBUTES HAVE BEEN paid to a Fianna F\u00e1il councillor who passed away at his home in Monaghan today, aged 56.<\/p>\n
Seamus Coyle, who served on Monaghan County Council for 22 years, is remembered as a \u201chugely popular figure\u201d and advocate for people of Latton and the wider Ballybay Clones area.<\/p>\n
Taoiseach Miche\u00e1l Martin said he was \u201cvery sorry\u201d to learn of the death of a \u201cproud Monaghan man\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cS\u00e9amus worked tirelessly for his local community, constantly seeking to improve their lives and community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHis long and unbroken service is testament to the regard his local community had for him.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was involved in many local organisations, again working tirelessly to improve his local community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Martin also commended his \u201cimmense work ethic\u201d.<\/p>\n
Mr Coyle was first elected to Monaghan County Council in 2004 and was re-elected at every subsequent local election, topping the poll in 2014, 2019 and 2024.<\/p>\n
During that time, he served as Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council on two occasions. He was the current Cathaoirleach of Ballybay Clones Municipal District.<\/p>\n
Fianna F\u00e1il Senator Robbie Gallagher said \u201ca very honourable man who gave great service to the people of Monaghan\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was a great advocate for Monaghan people across so many different disciplines whether it be politics, GAA, agriculture, business, healthcare as well as other things,\u201d he said in a Facebook post.\u00a0<\/p>\n
