The late rockabilly artist Mojo Nixon and the reggae band Big Mountain\u00a0are among the artists\u00a0newly\u00a0announced as\u00a0inductees\u00a0as part of the San Diego Music Hall of Fame\u2019s class of 2026.<\/p>\n

Other\u00a0performers\u00a0scheduled to be inducted in the Oct. 16 ceremony\u00a0include jazz, punk rock and\u00a0blues\u00a0artists, signifying the\u00a0musical\u00a0diversity of the San Diego music scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a wonderful, eclectic group and I am really excited about this year\u2019s show,\u201d\u00a0Hall of Fame founder Jefferson\u00a0Jay said.<\/p>\n

The full list of\u00a0inductees, according to\u00a0Jay,\u00a0is:<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Mojo Nixon<\/a>, an eccentric\u00a0rockabilly artist who\u2019s best known for his\u00a0song \u201cElvis is Everywhere,\u201d which\u00a0was a staple on MTV in the late 1980s.\u00a0Nixon, who died in 2024 at 66,,\u00a0is also known for collaborating with National City\u00a0native musician\u00a0Skid\u00a0Roper.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Big Mountain<\/a>,\u00a0the\u00a0reggae\u00a0band that was formed in San Diego\u00a0in the mid-1980s.\u00a0They\u2019re best known for their cover of Peter Frampton\u2019s\u00a0\u201cBaby, I Love Your Way,\u201d which reached No. 6 on the Billboard\u00a0songs chart in\u00a01994.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Claudia Russell<\/a>,\u00a0aka Jazz Kitty,\u00a0a longtime KSDS 88.3\u00a0radio DJ\u00a0known for her\u00a0weekly\u00a0program\u00a0\u201cBohemia After Dark,\u201d\u00a0as well as for her championing of San Diego\u00a0jazz and the city\u2019s music community.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0The Penetrators, a pioneering San Diego band that\u00a0helped establish the city\u2019s early punk scene\u00a0in the late 1970s.\u00a0The band, which disbanded in the\u00a0mid-1980s,\u00a0began\u00a0reuniting\u00a0periodically for live performances\u00a0a few years later.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Larry Grano, a\u00a0drummer, singer and San Diego music mainstay.\u00a0His\u00a0career has included\u00a0performing in\u00a0the\u00a0tribute\u00a0bands\u00a0Rockola\u00a0and\u00a0Steely Damned\u00a0as well as being\u00a0the\u00a0lead\u00a0singer for the\u00a0Soul\/R&B\u00a0band, the Soul Persuaders.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Lady Dottie & The Diamonds, an award-winning\u00a0San Diego\u00a0band\u00a0that combined\u00a0blues, soul and rock\u00a0music\u00a0during their\u00a0electric live shows, led by vocalist\u00a0Dorothy Mae\u00a0\u201cLady Dottie\u201d\u00a0Whitsett.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Oliver Luck, a veteran trombonist, musician and longtime educator whose\u00a0career touched generations of musicians and students.\u00a0Luck,\u00a0a World War II veteran, was a professional musician before and after the war,\u00a0and\u00a0performed with Count Basie.<\/p>\n

Several live performances are set for the induction ceremony, including\u00a0from members of\u00a0the bands\u00a0Big Mountain,\u00a0the Penetrators and Nixon-affiliated band the Beat Farmers,\u00a0Lady Dottie and the Diamonds,\u00a0Oliver Luck & Richard James, Gato\u00a0Papacitos\u00a0and\u00a0more.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur lineup of performers is amazing,\u201d Jay said.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0ceremony\u00a0is scheduled for\u00a07 p.m. Oct. 16 at Vision\u00a0Center for Spiritual Healing, 4780 Mission Gorge Place.
