With the summer holidays entering their final stretch, thousands of families are expected to snap up late deals and jet off for one final week of sunshine before children return to the classroom.<\/p>\n

New figures from package holiday specialists On the Beach<\/a>, reveal that 11.9% of Irish summer bookings are now made at the last minute, with holidaymakers securing trips departing within just 14 days.<\/p>\n

With only two weeks of the school holidays remaining, searches for holidays departing during the final week have jumped by 22% in the past 48 hours alone.<\/p>\n

‘Historic Summer’<\/p>\n

“After a historic summer of sport and plenty of All-Ireland excitement, thousands of families are realising there\u2019s still time to squeeze in one last escape before the uniforms come out and the alarm clocks go back on,” said Caspar Nelson, holiday expert at On the Beach.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re seeing a huge surge in searches for holidays departing during the final week, pointing to a major last-minute booking rush.”<\/p>\n

According to On the Beach, Spain is leading the last-minute getaway rush, with the Canary Islands and Greece also among the most searched-for destinations for the final week of the school holidays.<\/p>\n

The top ten most searched for destinations include:<\/p>\n

3. Greece
4. Turkey
5. Portugal
6. Balearic Islands
7. Czech Republic
8. Netherlands
9. Belgium
