{"id":597081,"date":"2026-08-18T13:54:21","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T13:54:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/597081\/"},"modified":"2026-08-18T13:54:21","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T13:54:21","slug":"funeral-notice-for-teenager-killed-in-m9-crash-removed-from-rip-ie-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/597081\/","title":{"rendered":"Funeral notice for teenager killed in M9 crash removed from RIP.ie \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A funeral notice for one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/crime-law\/2026\/08\/17\/five-teenagers-killed-in-m9-wrong-way-crash-are-named-locally\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/crime-law\/2026\/08\/17\/five-teenagers-killed-in-m9-wrong-way-crash-are-named-locally\/\">the teenagers killed in the M9 crash<\/a> on Sunday morning has been removed from RIP.ie. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The notice for Joe Carthy (15), from Athy, Co Kildare, went up on the website on Monday morning and was removed hours later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">RIP.ie, which is owned by The Irish Times Group, said it did not comment on individual funeral notices. Undertaker Joe Rigney, of Rigneys Funeral Directors, declined to comment on the removal of the notice. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Funeral notices for the four other teenagers who died \u2013 Kamil Pustkowski (17) from Limerick; Jack Kennedy, also 17, from Athy; Jeremy O\u2019Brien (18) from Carlow; and Alex McCarthy (17) from Carlow \u2013 have not yet been published. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The funeral notice for Carthy on the RIP.ie Facebook page attracted more than 600 comments when it was published. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Some sympathised with the Carthy family\u2019s loss, while others expressed anger about the circumstances in which the group of masked teenagers drove a BMW the wrong way down the M9 motorway at 3am on Sunday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">There was also sympathy expressed for the innocent victims of the tragedy. Sisters Alma and Niamh Kinsella, aged in their 30s, are in a serious condition in hospital.
