Downtown Boston\u2019s WNDR Museum<\/a> will close Aug. 30, the company announced Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo every guest who visited, every artist who shared their work, and every team member who helped make WNDR what it was \u2014 thank you,\u201d the immersive art museum said in an Instagram post<\/a>. \u201cYou made these spaces more than museums. You made them places to play, wonder, connect, and create memories.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

WNDR Museum opened<\/a> its Downtown Crossing location at Lafayette City Center, 500 Washington St., in 2024. The museum\u2019s Chicago location will also close on Sept. 7, the company said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The museum\u2019s Boston location features unique, interactive works<\/a> by local artists.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One of the current installations is \u201cBallcade<\/a>,\u201d inspired by childhood toys such as marble runs, offering visitors a digital glimpse into another space or the physical journey of a bill as it moves through the exhibit.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Another installation,\u201cLight Floor<\/a>,\u201d features a generative light floor that responds to human interaction, changing as visitors move across it.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

WNDR describes its experience as a \u201cplayful journey that awakens creativity, cultivates community, and leaves you wondering what\u2019s next,\u201d per the company\u2019s website.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The museum was recently named one<\/a> of USA Today readers\u2019 10 best immersive art experiences in the U.S.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

WNDR also offers private event spaces, including a 200-square-foot lounge and a full museum buyout encompassing 12,000 square feet.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIf WNDR has ever made you smile, sparked your curiosity, or given you a memory you\u2019ll carry with you, this is your last chance to come experience it,\u201d the museum said. \u201cCome say goodbye. One last WNDR.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

WNDR did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The company\u2019s Instagram post did not specify a reason for the closure.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ryan Kunkel, president of WNDR Global, the operating company behind WNDR Museum, told Boston.com in 2022<\/a> that Boston was a natural fit for the museum and that the team was \u201cecstatic\u201d to expand to the city.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a city with so much rich history and context and culture but, to our knowledge, it doesn\u2019t have this new-age art and technology experience that we\u2019re excited to bring to the city,\u201d Kunkel said.<\/p>\n
